Francisco Goya (1746 - 1828)
Francisco Goya is born on March 30, 1746, in Fuendetodos, close to Saragossa, it is the son of José Goya, Master-gilder and of Gracia Lucientes. It studies painting in Saragossa (1761-1764) in the workshop of José Luzan, painter of church of the late baroque. In Madrid, in 1763, to obtain a purse, it is presented at the contest of the Academy San Fernando, which it fails, then in 1766, it still fails the triennial contest of the Academy of Madrid. However this same year it is received with the workshop of Francisco Bayeu, collaborator of Anton Raphaël Mengs, painter at the court of the king Charles III and it is thus established finally in Madrid.
Sacrificing for the use of the time, it leaves for Italy and takes part in a contest organized by the academy of Parma in April 1770, it obtains six votes but not price. It returns in June to Saragossa.
In 1771, Goya turns over to Italy, where there remains approximately a year. It spends a few months to Rome and takes share once again with the contest of the academy of Parma, it gains the second price. From return in Saragossa, it receives an ordering of importance, the decoration of a ceiling of the basilica Nuestra Señora del Pilar. In 1774 it carries out frescos for the chartreuse one of Aula Dei, close to Saragossa.
It sets out again for Madrid where it marries Josefa Bayeu, the sister of its professor Francisco Bayeu and thanks to this last it obtains functions at the court. In 1775 Mengs uses it with the royal manufacture of tapestry for which it builds many paperboards and drafts.
The grace and the naturalness which it brings in the painting of the popular scenes, new kind, where it is distinguished constantly, excite the admiration of the experts and praises marked for the vision are worth to him which they offer of the Spanish everyday life. A draft radiates between all, the Meadow of San Isidro realized for the room to lay down infantes, true apotheosis of Madrid, its people, his light.
Christ placed at the entry of the chorus of the church San Francisco el Grande of Madrid is worth in Goya, in 1780, her appointment of member of the Academy of San-Fernando and ordinary painter of the king.
After the death of Charles III, Goya is also protected by Charles IV.
