Pierre Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)

Until 1881 the artist will carry out many head of impressionist works (the Mill of Wafer, the lunch of the Rowers…). In 1881 it decides to travel to Algeria and Italy. Conquered by Venice, the beauty of the frescos of Raphaël and oils of Ingres it passes through an aesthetic crisis which will change its style and its manner of painting. It moves away from impressionism, contours of its characters become more precise.

It draws the forms with more rigour, it enters during one time of 1883 to 1888 which will be called " dry "," sour " or " ingresque period ". Then Renoir little by little will leave this period. Without returning to a blow of purely impressionist brush, it will inflect the feature, will give up the rigour while preserving modelled its subjects.

Renoir enters during the " pearly " time. Delicacy, sensuality, harmony and pleasure are the Masters words of this period. Renoir is promoted Commandeur of the legion of honor in February 1919.

Its impressionist picture of 1879 " Mrs George Carpenter and her children " is exposed to the Louvre of alive sound… and he visits the museum where he is received like a prince of painting…
