Arcimboldo : Earth.

The ground is obviously evoked using animals. The ones are familiar animals the others very exotic for the time (the years 1570-1575). But what thus contained exactly Wunderkammer, the museum of curiosities of the Habsbourg emperors at the court of Germany ? Earth : an animal allegory.

Thanks to this work of Arcimboldo, the representation of the element ground, we can imagine the richness (for the time) of the museum of curiosities, or Wunderkammer, of the emperors of Germany. Lions, monkeys, elephants, leopards… The true ancestor of all the natural history museums of Europe east very indicated…
